Apple Cinnamon Pie: photo of the finished dish.

Picture this: it’s chilly outside, but inside your home, a pie is baking in the oven, filling the kitchen with the sweet scent of cinnamon... This apple pie is incredibly easy to make, yet it looks and smells like it came straight from an old-fashioned bakery. Moist yogurt-based batter, juicy slices of apple, and a crisp caramelized crust on top — it’s the perfect combination for a cozy autumn evening!

Cooking Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix together the butter (at room temperature) and all three types of sugar: white, brown, and vanilla.

  2. Crack the eggs in one at a time, mixing well after each addition – this way, your batter will stay nice and smooth. I recommend using eggs at room temperature, as they blend more easily with the butter.

  3. Now add the Greek yogurt (it will make the cake extra moist and give it a lovely, juicy texture), along with a pinch of baking soda (this will react with the yogurt and help the batter rise). Mix everything together until smooth and well combined.

  4. In a separate bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Then combine this dry mixture with the wet batter.

  5. Mix everything together with a spatula until you get a thick, smooth batter. The batter should be dense and free of lumps. Once you’ve reached this consistency, set the batter aside.

  6. Now let’s get started on the filling. Wash the apples, peel them, and remove the cores. Slice the apples into wedges — not too thin, but not too thick either. You want the slices to bake through while still holding their shape.

  7. Drizzle the apples with lemon juice (this will keep them from browning), sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon, and gently toss everything together.

  8. Let’s get your pie ready for baking! Grab your baking dish (I like to use a silicone one) and line it with parchment paper. This way, all the caramel and juices will stay inside the pie and won’t leak out while it’s baking.

Spread half of the dough evenly over the bottom of the dish.

  9. Mix 50 grams of brown sugar and 4 grams of ground cinnamon together. Take about one - third of this mixture and sprinkle it evenly over the dough.

  10. Arrange the apple slices on top of the dough in a single layer.

  11. Evenly spread the remaining batter on top, then sprinkle it again with 1/3 of the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

  12. Arrange the remaining apple slices on top and sprinkle them with the rest of the sugar and cinnamon mixture.

  13. Place the pie in a preheated oven at 175°C (347°F) and bake for 55-65 minutes. Check for doneness with a toothpick or wooden skewer — if it comes out clean, your pie is ready!

  14. When the pie is ready, take it out of the oven and let it rest for a few minutes. Then transfer it to a plate and allow it to cool.

Tips for Perfect Pie

  1. Use ingredients at room temperature (this helps you get the best dough texture).
  2. Pick firm apple varieties, like Granny Smith, Honeycrisp, or Gala.
  3. For extra flavor, add warming spices like nutmeg or cloves to your sugar topping.
  4. Let the pie cool before serving — that way, it won’t crumble when you slice it.
  5. Store the pie in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 4 days (but honestly, it’s best enjoyed fresh!).
